Tool Sharpening. Woodentops member Derek Tryhorn kindly treated us all to a session on how to sharpen tools (06/11/2010). There were many useful tips on technique, types of oil to use and what not to use, the different types of medium and plenty of health and safety advice - especially when using power tools. Derek also emphasised the importance of regular sharpening of tools, not just when they became blunt! As with his carving, this session was carefully prepared with much thought put into it. Derek is also an experienced toolmaker and his expertise in this field obviously added much to his presentation. We all came away that much the wiser and better informed.
