We are a wood carving group from Orpington in Kent and our history goes back to 1997, Our founder was Mick Cuomo, who is a brilliant and prolific carver, and who was our leader for over ten years. We still enjoy the benefit of Mick’s considerable experience in running the group for so long. He remains an active member and we look forward to his guidance and assistance for many years to come. Mick handed over the reins recently to our new leader Tom Young who has been a loyal and prominent member of the group from the very beginning. We meet every first Saturday of the month, with the exception of January, between the hours of 9.00am and 1.00pm. Our venue is Saint John’s URC Church Hall, Lynwood Grove, Orpington, Kent BR6 0BG. Please read our newsletter for more details. From May 2008 all issues are displayed on this site.
We are not a class as such, more a group of carvers of all abilities who help each other. All are welcome to come to our sessions, we even provide free refreshments! Our members are always happy to discuss their work and there is no obligation to join the group. Regarding membership, it is open to all, irrespective of ability. Our members range from novice to the very best. We are a self-help group and there is no shortage of advice, contacts and knowledge. We exhibit often at Bromley Library and at various other locations. From time to time we stage an exhibition at Saint John’s Church Hall, an all day event, open to the public with profits going to charity. Our members come from South East London and Kent (Bexleyheath, Croydon, Eltham, Sidcup, Orpington etc) and even farther afield.
